Description

Just like the human epidemic, almost 50% of the pet population is overweight. Even a little extra weight can impact the pet's quality of life and relationship with family because that extra weight can reduce play time, impact mobility and affect the lifelong general health of your cat. Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Prescription Diet Metabolic clinical nutrition specially formulated to support your cat's weight management. In fact, 88% of pets lost weight at home in two months when fed the nutrition of Metabolic.

Key Benefits
  • When switching to this formula, 88% of pets lost weight at home in just 2 months.
  • Naturally works with your pet's unique metabolism and helps to avoid weight regain after weight loss.
  • Helps your pet feel full and satisfied between meals while supporting vitality and holistic health.
  • Formulated with S+OXSHIELD to meet specific nutrient standards, shown to promote a urinary environment that helps reduce the risk for struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.
  • Offers same great taste and benefits as they did prior to the introduction of the S+OXSHIELD seal.

Transition Instructions

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 1-2 75% 25%
Days 3-4 50% 50%

FAQ

Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?

We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.

How do I order veterinary diets?

  1. Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
  2. At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
  3. Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.

Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.

Do authorizations expire?

Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

    Perfect formula!

By Katie on Oct 17, 2021

My cat gained a bunch of weight when he started stealing food from my sick cat (Rude, right?) Then we got microchip feeders and my tubby kitty figured out how to get into his brother's feeder. (He's stupid with everything except food….) My cat went into the vet and weighed a whopping 19.75lbs. My vet put him on this and three months later, he's down to about 16.5lbs. Bit of advice (from my vet) — count the calories. Ignore the bag's directions. My cat gets 3/8ths of a cup a day. Yes. That's it. He's fine. You gotta weigh your cat and figure out what measurement is gonna let them lose the weight. My vet suggested going down about 10-20% each time your cat starts to plateau. New cat, who dis?

By Brooks on Oct 6, 2021

This food as given me a whole new cat. Pinta gained a bit of happy weight after adoption and the upwards trend continued, especially over the last 6 months. The vet recommended this food as a starting point to get her weight under control to help with her asthma. What I didn't expect was a WHOLE NEW CAT. She has more energy, she's happier, she's PLAYING, she's fighting with her brother, when before she'd just nap in various spots all day and not really engage. The food is even easy enough on the stomach that her brother with a sensitive tummy doesn't get sick on it when almost everything makes him sick. Love this food. Love Hills prescription diet food. 10/10, highly recommend.

Good cat food, delivery not so much

By Browser on Oct 28, 2021

The product is fine, kitty on it for a couple of years. But "free 1-2 day delivery" was over a week, which we didn't expect. Will know next time, but don't count on quick delivery.

He loves it. Rudy loves it.

By Rudy on Oct 22, 2021

This is super expensive, but I know it is much better for him and he really does enjoy this product. Seems to prefer it over his treats and that is saying something.

    Picky Cat Don't Care

By Chubbs on Aug 6, 2021

Our cat is not a big cat, but he is 16.7LBS. We've never had a cat growing up that big. We originally had him on Blue Buffalo weight management (blue bag), but it wasn't cutting it, so I talked to the vet and they recommended this. I was worried he wasn't going to like it because he is PICKY!!!!!!!! I mixed his old food with his new food for 6 days like they recommended then on the 7th day he only got the new food. The boy cannot get enough! It does keep him pretty full, at least I think it does, but I have noticed by the evening time he is out of food. I guess that is a good thing, but I don't want to starve him......ugh mother worries....am i right???
